Choosing a Doctor

My fiance's health insurance changed nearly a year ago, and he still hasn't selected a primary care physician. I feel bad finding good health care is difficult, and even if you know someone who likes their doctor it doesn't necessarily mean that their doctor will accept your health insurance. Currently I feel as though we are frozen by indecision. With out information what's the average person to do?

We've been scouring the internet for reviews on any doctors covered by his health insurance. Unfortunately reviews are hard to come by, and there are a lot of web sites out there who want to charge you for the information they provide.

He's not in any immediate need for health care, but it's time to stop putting this off. Better to take care of it when you don't need care then wait until you do.

I don't think I've ever actually gotten to know my primary care doctor. Most often I don't have one, I just make appointments with the receptionist when necessary. When I have had primary care doctors, I usually just choose them based on convenience and whether or not we speak the same language (literally).

It seems to me that a primary care physician isn't what I would think it should be: your primary trusted contact to health care, but instead a conduit for health insurance companies to manage their exposure. Boo.
